IMAGES OF SOUL: EVOLVING IN LIGHT
Solo exhibition by Jennifer Pyron at Arosita Gallery in Sofia, Bulgaria, June 2-16, 2026.
In 2020, I began experimenting with a playful concept through natural light, reflective materials (channels), and my voice. I photographed these moments using 35mm film and made iPhone videos to document my process.
“Light Channel" documents moments in which I use an HDMI cable, monitor screen, iPhone and laptop to process my voice. It illuminates the undetermined perspective of randomness and the art of play when pairing natural elements with technology.
Light Channel (2026) is an experimental and philosophical practice, an externalization of my spiritual and internal process (my soul), similar to the “soul iconography" work by Hippolyte Baraduc (1913). In his book (The Human Soul: Its Movements, Its Lights, and the Iconography of the Fluidic Invisible) Baraduc says, “In iconography, the plate receives, very slowly, no longer by the solar ray, but by an electro-vital current (wind, breeze) or simply by a direct emission, no longer, the exterior light of the object, but what is called its internal light, its intimate soul, which it records–At the end of this experimental study on the soul and the fluidic invisible world, we hope that our readers will be of the firm conviction that there exists in us a soul, not hypothetical or created with a purpose by religions, but indeed very real.”

“I am aware of the line between worlds and I am a bridge of light.”
This installation offers fluid perspectives that see the beauty in all things – a chance for one to connect with the playfulness of life through light, sound and consciousness.
“Light Channel” (natural light photography) reflected light on Pyron’s studio wall while improvising using her voice.

“Central Park / Energy Synthesis” (35mm film photography) images of NYC’s Central Park as moments of pure consciousness on film.

“Harlem train” (2017) video collage of Metro North train ride draws new perspectives into the mind’s eye and pushes boundaries by asking the question: Where does the line that bridge’s one’s imagination and reality exist?
